The Dragonfire update is now live in Albion Online, bringing one of the biggest PvE expansions the game has seen. Released on August 31, 2026, Dragonfire introduces the Ancient Lands, Dragon Attacks, new enemies, valuable rewards, Dragonslayer Armor, the Firewing Drake, and Albion's most challenging PvE encounter yet: Azaryon, the Fire Dragon.
Whether you're a solo player, part of a small group, or preparing a full 20-player party, Dragonfire adds new progression opportunities and high-value content to explore.
This guide covers the most important Dragonfire features and what you need to know before heading into the new content.
Dragonfire expands Albion beyond its traditional open world with a completely new region known as the Ancient Lands.
These mysterious floating islands are filled with Ashborn enemies, Drakes, valuable objectives, PvP encounters, and pathways that can eventually lead experienced groups toward the Dragon Sanctuary.
The update introduces several major features:
This makes Dragonfire much more than a single boss encounter. It's an entirely new progression loop.
Portals to the Ancient Lands appear throughout Albion's open world.
Different portals support different party sizes, ranging from solo players to organized groups of up to 20 players.
The matchmaking system also attempts to place similarly sized parties together, meaning solo players entering through smaller portals shouldn't suddenly find themselves facing an organized 20-player group.
The type of PvP depends on where you enter.
Portals found in the Outlands and Red Zones lead to lethal versions of the Ancient Lands, while Yellow Zone portals provide a non-lethal alternative.
Every party begins on a floating island toward the outer area of the region.
To progress deeper, players must complete objectives by defeating Keeper enemies.
Completing an island objective provides a Keystone.
Keystones activate Leygates that connect different floating islands, gradually opening new routes through the Ancient Lands.
The deeper you travel, the greater the potential rewards become.
But there's a tradeoff.
Opening additional routes also increases your chances of encountering competing players.
Dragonfire therefore combines:
Exploration + PvE + PvP + Risk vs Reward
rather than functioning like a traditional linear dungeon.
Some of the most important objectives inside the Ancient Lands involve Drakes.
Four Drake islands are marked on the minimap.
Defeating these creatures can reward players with valuable resources including:
Once all four Drakes have been defeated, a powerful Fire Drake appears toward the center of the region.
Defeating it provides access to some of the Ancient Lands' strongest rewards and can provide complete Spirit Waystones.
Spirit Waystones are particularly important because they provide access to Dragonfire's ultimate PvE challenge.
A complete Spirit Waystone allows a 20-player party to enter the Dragon Sanctuary.
Waystones are rare Ancient Lands rewards, but they're also tradable, meaning players can potentially obtain them through Albion's Marketplace instead of farming every component themselves.
The Dragon Sanctuary is a dedicated 20-player PvE raid.
Unlike the Ancient Lands, the Dragon Sanctuary itself is pure PvE.
Inside, your party must battle through powerful Ashborn enemies and Fire Drakes before eventually earning the opportunity to challenge Azaryon.
This isn't designed as casual PvE content.
Albion's developers describe it as an endgame challenge intended for powerful equipment and optimized group compositions.
Players who aren't prepared may want to improve their equipment progression and combat specialization before attempting the raid. This is also where Albion Online Fame Farming can become useful for players trying to prepare a competitive PvE build.
At the end of Dragonfire's hardest progression path waits Azaryon, the Fire Dragon.
Azaryon is an enormous ancient Dragon and currently represents Albion Online's most demanding PvE encounter.
The fight requires much more than high Item Power.
Players need:
Azaryon's attacks include powerful flames and massive physical attacks capable of punishing poorly positioned players.
For a complete breakdown of the encounter and how to reach it, see our Albion Online Dragon Sanctuary & Azaryon Guide.
You don't necessarily need to enter the Dragon Sanctuary to fight Dragons.
Dragon Attacks can now occur throughout Albion.
On the Royal Continent, these events can appear with very little warning.
Players nearby can participate in fighting the Dragon, and once enough damage has been dealt, the creature retreats and leaves a treasure chest behind.
Even solo players can participate and potentially receive loot.
The Outlands version works differently.
Dragon Attacks there are announced ahead of time, allowing guilds to prepare. These encounters can turn into large-scale battles as guilds compete against both the Dragon and rival players for rewards.
Dragonfire introduces a completely new leather armor set: Dragonslayer Armor.
The set consists of:
These items aren't simply cosmetic.
Each piece introduces unique combat abilities, making Dragonslayer equipment relevant beyond Dragonfire itself.
The equipment can be crafted using Fire Dragon Scales or artifacts obtained from Dragons.
One of Dragonfire's rarest rewards is the Fire Drake Egg.
Players who defeat Azaryon have a chance to obtain one.
But obtaining the egg isn't the end of the process.
The Drake must actually be raised, and doing so requires feeding it other mounts.
Eventually, the egg can become a Firewing Drake, a powerful new mount featuring a glide ability and a speed boost that isn't interrupted simply by taking damage.
This makes the Firewing Drake one of Dragonfire's biggest long-term rewards.
Dragonfire also expands Albion's economy with several new resources.
Dragon Blood can be used to create Lifeward Potions, while Leyfin Fish found in the Ancient Lands can be used for new food.
Drake Eggs even have an alternative use beyond raising a mount: they can be used to create Drake Biscuits, which provide a long-duration combat and gathering Fame buff.
This means Dragonfire affects more than PvE players.
Gatherers, crafters, traders, PvP players, and market-focused players all have reasons to pay attention to the new resources.
For players interested in endgame Albion Online content, absolutely.
Dragonfire adds meaningful content for almost every group size.
Solo and small-group players can explore appropriate Ancient Lands portals and participate in Royal Continent Dragon Attacks.
Larger groups can push deeper into the Ancient Lands.
And highly organized 20-player groups now have the Dragon Sanctuary and Azaryon as a genuine endgame PvE challenge.
Dragonfire significantly expands Albion Online's endgame.
The journey begins with exploring the Ancient Lands and fighting Drakes, but eventually leads toward Spirit Waystones, the Dragon Sanctuary, and Azaryon himself.
And with Dragonslayer Armor, Dragon resources, new consumables, Drake Eggs, and the Firewing Drake available as rewards, there are plenty of reasons to continue exploring the update long after your first Dragon encounter.
